Newspaper Articles
One of my goals as a citizen of Mt. Vernon and the pastor of First Baptist Church has been to show that the message of God's Word addresses the many questions of life that we ask on a daily basis. God's character, God's actions, and God's revelation change everything. Therefore, I periodically contribute articles to our local newspaper, the Mt. Vernon Democrat, in an attempt to show the sufficiency of God's Word in living a life that honors Jesus Christ. Below are downloadable versions of each of these articles:

A Study on the Spiritual Disciplines
First Baptist Church embarked on a Sunday night study on the spiritual disciplines. Using Don Whitney's Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life as a source, our congregation explored God-given means of growth like Bible intake, prayer, and fasting. We learned more about each of these tools for maturity so that we could "train (ourselves) for godliness" (1 Timothy 4:7) through the power of the Holy Spirit. Below are the handouts for each week:

Lessons from First Thessalonians
The book of First Thessalonians is not one of the most familiar books in the NT, or even among Paul's letters. Nevertheless, this letter was inspired by the Holy Spirit and is valuable for the building up of Christ's church. Below I have posted a revised version of a series of one-page articles written in 2006 that are based directly upon First Thessalonians. Though directed toward Christians, the articles are also valuable for non-believers as well.
